Holy Trinity provides an environment that balances a challenging academic curriculum with enrichment activities and emphasizes teamwork and sportsmanship. We offer Student Council, Newspaper, Yearbook, Art to Grow On, Talented & Gifted Program, Drama, Altar Servers, Scouting, and our Academic Honor Society which is part of the California Junior Scholarship Federation.
Holy Trinity School offers a wide range of sports teams for students from grades 3-8. We compete in traditional sports such as football, basketball, volleyball, soccer, and track through the CYO (Catholic Youth Organization). The CYO programs are divided into 3 categories by grade level ranging from instructional to competitive teams. Holy Trinity also fields teams such as Baseball, Swimming, and Golf though municipal and private leagues.
The goal of our sports programs is to encourage participation in a school activity and enjoy the benefits of team sports in a positive environment. Last year 325 of our students competed on 24 Holy Trinity teams.
Field trips are organized and designed to enhance subject material that is being studied in the classroom.
They range from visits to historical places like San Juan Capistrano Mission to visiting the local historical sites in San Pedro.
Christian values and morality play an integral part in all school activities. Through these activities, the development of each student’s abilities, talents, interests, and potential are encouraged.
Music and song are key elements of our program in elementary school. Students continue to develop and apply their musical knowledge by playing an instrument. In sixth grade, they are introduced to the recorder, an early woodwind instrument, and the precursor to the modern flute. They develop style and explore the art of interpretation while honing their music reading skills. They learn the challenges of playing in a large group versus playing alone. Students will continue to play the recorder through the seventh and eighth grades, with opportunities to learn pieces for school masses.
In addition, lessons in singing, music history and appreciation, musical theater, multicultural music, and music for healing and prayer are incorporated throughout the school year. There are also opportunities for students to cantor at school masses and/or sing in the choir.
Art to Grow On is a community sponsored program run by parent volunteers to provide art experiences in various media and forms. The professionally trained volunteer instructors present lessons to the students. The artistic outcomes display the children’s interpretations.
Artists-In-Classrooms is a school residency program offering weekly instruction by professional artist-teachers in collaboration with school teachers in their classrooms. Classes incorporate a variety of media including drawing, painting, ceramics, and sculpture. Our artist-teachers offer skill-based lessons, which integrate cross-disciplinary knowledge, educational standards, and an appreciation of cultural diversity. This program is supported by Angel’s Gate Cultural Center in San Pedro and student projects are often exhibited at the center.
Through exploration of theater games, poems, acting out scenes and fables students develop a sense of performing on stage as a group and individually.
As part of the curriculum, the 6th graders produce a play each year. For the past two years, they have chosen “Charlie Brown Christmas,” directed by Mrs. Wilson, the 6th-grade language arts teacher. The students participate as actors, stagehands, and set designers. Everyone enjoys this educational experience.
Our TAG program provides enrichment for Middle School students. Students participate in 4-week rotations in areas that include engineering, science, drama, newspaper, web design, world events, study debate, reader’s theater, etiquette, and art. Decathlon teams use this time to participate and study their chosen areas.
